On its own, AI is just tech. This expert says true transformation is ‘the people part’  HR Executive Jill Barth

As organizations are pressured to make the most of AI-driven technology, CHROs are in need of advice and clarity. Many turn to HR Tech opening keynoter Charlene Li, an expert in digital transformation and disruptive growth strategies, with a career spanning over three decades.

Her most recent work focuses on AI’s growing impact on HR practices, employee experiences, workplace productivity and organizational culture. Li emphasizes the need for HR leaders to adopt a disruptive mindset in response to the current business environment.

Li believes that generative AI has the potential to revolutionize HR functions, businesses and—most importantly—leadership. This movement involves AI as the digital component, but she says, “the transformation is the people part.”

According to Li, this future of work involves leading “superhumans”—people who will accomplish things we never thought possible. She says the key question for HR is: How do we lead them? How do we show up as leaders in this new era? Li believes leadership is, at its core, a relationship: “When you give up the need to be in control because you realize that you were never in control in the first place.”

She also highlights the importance of HR leaders understanding AI’s capabilities and limitations. “Unless we do that, we won’t be able to harness it for good, even knowing it can be used for many other things,” Li says.

Li’s new book, Winning with Generative AI, provides HR leaders with a balanced approach to leveraging AI while safeguarding their organization’s unique strengths. It offers guidance on identifying competitive advantages, enabling businesses to thrive amid technological change.

At HR Tech, Li sat down with HR Executive Tech Editor Jill Barth for a video interview to discuss how CHROs can lead the organization, improve employee experience and boost the positive impact of artificial intelligence.
